Nishi First Flush Sencha, Organic Japanese Green Tea

Mr. Nishi-san never sells his tea at the auction and is one of the pioneers of organic tea farming in Japan. Rishi Tea has a private contract growing relationship with Mr. Nishi-san and together we established a USDA-NOP Organic Certified tea project in Kagoshima, Japan. Nishi-san’s teas are exquisite due to his masterful expertise in cultivation and aracha processing. Nishi-san’s farm takes great care to nurture Yabukita and other premier tea varietals ensuring that Rishi Organic Sencha is superb year after year. Our First Flush Sencha from Nishi-san is a light-steamed type (asamushi) from the first harvest of spring when the highest quality tea is produced. It’s refreshing and brisk with a pleasant bitter-sweetness, deep umami flavor and a greenish-golden infusion color. Its unique flavor comes from a special blend of unique Japanese tea bush varietals cultivated for us according to strict EU and USDA-NOP organic certified standards.

What I’m Drinking: Jade Fire, Organic Green Tea

Known as Huo Qing (Fire Jade), this green tea is an example of a round-fried tea that is skillfully wok fired and shaped by hand into tightly-rolled, shiny, dark green pellets. As Jade Fire unfurls, the brisk flavor and aromatic notes of fresh pinecone and wild orchid are revealed.

Water: 180˚F / Leaves: 1 teaspoon per 8 ounces / Infusion Time: 2–3 minutes / Ingredients: Organic green tea. / Origin: Guanshan, China.

What I’m Drinking: St. Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer

Description

lawnmowerA true German-style Kölsch. Originally brewed in Cologne, this beer is light yet has a sweet malty body that is balanced by a complex, citrus hop character. Multiple additions of German Hallertauer hops are used to achieve this delicate flavor. We use a special Kölsch yeast, an ale yeast that ferments at lager temperatures, to yield the slightly fruity, clean flavor of this beer. Fancy Lawnmower Beer is a world class brew yet light enough to be enjoyed by Texans after strenuous activities, like mowing the lawn.

Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer is best consumed at 35-45° Fahrenheit.

Recommended pairings: Blackened fish, salads, & grilled veggies.

Wins

Gold Medal, Great American Beer Festival, Kölsch, 2007

Ingredients

Malted Barley: True to style, this beer is brewed with just pale malted barley and a dash of malted wheat. We import the world’s best pils and wheat malts to create the light yet rich malt body.

Hops: We use a single hop variety in this beer: Hallertauer Hallertauer (that is its name, not a typo). Four separate additions to the brew kettle create the delicate flavor and aroma of this classic hop.
